在工厂的初期建设和运行过程中,安全是最主要的问题。其中一个关键问题是防止辐射和辐射材料的暴露,例如防止核反应堆中锆合金材料(用于将燃料棒与周围冷却水进行隔离)开裂。

氢在锆合金中溶解度较低,过量的氢可导致氢化物析出。这会引起脆性、氢致延迟断裂和氢致起泡,所有这些都限制了材料的使用寿命,并引发环境问题。因此,了解氢化锆析出的过程至关重要,但首先必须能够检测和分析锆合金材料中的ZrH析出物。

EDS不能检测ZrH,但EBSD可以很容易地识别和表征锆基体中的ZrH析出物。从而为估算核电站中使用的锆合金部件的寿命提供了有价值的信息。
